Hi. I am 18 and I have suffered from GORD/GERD for about 5 years. A few years ago, I got medication for it and it improved, but since last year it has come back more frequently and i now often feel the reflux burning my throat. I'm worried that I may develop or may have developed Burret's oesophagus, which is caused by constant damage of the throat tissue from reflux, and it a risk factor of developing throat cancer. I have talked to my parents multiple times about this, but they don't seem to understand the seriousness of the risk. I'm terrified that it would only get detected in its late stages, when the risk of cancer is high. I don't know what I'm supposed to do:weep:.

You need to have reflux for many many years to get barrets ( even then you might not ) .

Can you not continue with the meds ?

I,m 50 had reflux for 20 years but take meds daily to stop it , my dad now 84 had the same and no meds were availble as such when he was your age .

Your very young , get sorted with meds again even if you need to take them for life ( i do ) .

You will be fine
