Weird one this ... what procedure did I have?

So a few months back I was sent to a doctor who performed a rectal examination. It used some sort of probe - not just a finger - but it only took a couple of minutes and it was carried out without any sort of sedation or any preparation (I didn't even know he was going to do it until I got in the examination room!) Could that have been a sigmoidoscopy or was it something else?

It sort of sounds like a sigmoidoscopy but not a full one - one that just looks at the very tail end of the bowel

I had one once where they insert some metal type device - that sounds awful but I can't describe it lol

I think it is called a rectoscope / proctoscope

I had that as well.It has a light on it and looks primarily at the colon as 80% of cancers of the bowel develop from there.
