View Full Version : Dizziness/floor moving feeling

For a few weeks now when I walk around I feel unsteady in my legs like I am walking on a boat. It makes me feel very unsteady and my head feels dizzy. Objects don't move and the room doesn't spin. It's just like my legs feel weak and the ground is moving or I will fall through it. I feel true unsteady feeling inside. I don't wobble and my gp did balance tests and I was fine.

My gp came to see me 2 weeks ago..I was so terrified that week I lay in bed crying scared to walk round my house. He did a full check, looked in my eye, bp, looked in ears, oxygen etc..and assured me it wasn't what I was scared it was. I was scared it was brain related. He then spoke to me on he Thursday a few days later and I asked him to check me again but he said there was no need and that it was all anxiety and immense stress I have been under with my son struggling from panic attacks due to bullying. It's been a tough time.

I did improve last week. I still had it but it was much better. Yesterday I suddenly felt the floor move quite badly and I panicked. My throat goes tight and anxiety races through me making my legs weak. It's a symptom that terrifies me. Well after that it was constant again, I was thinking oh no its back as bad as 2 weeks ago, what I'd it's a tumour, oh no christmas will be ruined if this doesn't stop....

I've woken up scared every day lately about the day ahead. I've been facing this daily walking around the house and over time my fear dropped alot but the moment it hits again strong I panic. It's brought on my agoraphobia again too.

Can anyone relate and reassure me this is normal with anxiety? I have no idea how to tackle this or trust my gp.

Good morning....

I can relate to all your points...

Its very difficult to keep it real and analyse in a sensible way.

I hope you and your son are OK.

I have the same feeling for four months already
. My doc assures me it's the anxiety and he recommended walking outside. In the morning I feel fine, but as the day progresses it gets worse

Thank you both.

Aleksandra what has your doctor said about it? My gp just did balance tests, muscle tests, EYES, ears, BP. .. all normal. All anxiety and stress he said.

I find I'm not too bad in the morning too.

You will have to believe your GP. The symptoms will slowly lessen if you truly believe what you have been told by your GP and by many people here on NMP already.

Thank you Pulisa.

I so want to but have a worry is it serious if persisting? I read balance issues are anxiety or ear related and never brain related yet that still worries me incase it's not accurate.

Thank you so much.

Really? Did you have it constant?Did you feel like the floor is like marshmallows when you walk? Also when I move say to open a cupboard or door I kind of sway inside with it or the motion knocks my balance? Could society really do this? I'm terrified walking round and I don't sleep much dreading the next day.

Thank you

B

Exactly the same , also had strange head pressure , couldn't look people in the eye ,vision problems , the list goes on , I have had this on and off for 9 years but I find if I try and keep busy it does fade away . I have convinced myself I have every illness going but I now accept its just anxiety as after all this time if it was anything more sinister I wouldn't be here now . Take care

Thank you KD

You cope very well with it then. I am not used to such physical symptoms.

A helpful post, but sorry to hear it has affected you for so long.

This makes you think though; if it was something serious it wouldn't just disappear when you feel ok or relaxed. It does the same with me. When I'm really tired (lack of sleep is bad for anxiety) and I've had an anxious event or build up of stress then the dizziness come back. I feel it but I kind of know it's from my brain being overloaded as it feels like it affects me when I am anxious....if you see what I mean.

The problem with dizziness is that is CAUSES more anxiety. I've been there so many times. My dizziness is different, (and I imagine we all feel it differently). Mine is:

- No dizziness sat or laid down. No issues with driving. No ear pain/blocked feeling.
- When my dizziness comes, it is when I stand up and walk around. I've completed runs no problem with it....it tends to blend into normal life. I never feel sick and I've never fallen over and it's never got any worse (thank god!). It just comes and goes.
- Now? It isn't here. My specialist thinks it could be down to pain free migraines, and my GP is sure that anxiety is also playing a part.

Once you are in the 'zone' of anxiety and health anxiety, nothing makes you feel better until you relax, start a plan to get out of it, and talk about it. Sleep is very important and you need distractions.

Don't worry that everyone feels it differently. Have you ever had a crazy amount of pain from a headache with it that won't stop? I mean serious pain...ongoing, getting worse, sickness, falling over?

Again that could be migraines but unless it's really really uncontrollably bad, I wouldn't worry. Also, the GP has seen you twice. He doesn't want to be sued for clinical negligence and he has a duty to look after you. He is an expert. I've seen two very experienced GP's recently and they immediately said anxiety. They didn't even know much about me as I'm new to the area! As soon as I said about a previous episode like this ten years ago (without health anxiety) then it made more sense.

Hope it calms down. Please relax and try and distract yourself.

I have seen several doctors and ent ,but all that helps me is keeping busy and distraction. When i feel it coming on I say stop and try and carry on as normal , it's very hard but it can be done . I still have bad days but on the whole I think I'm getting there .

I can honestly say that I have exactly the same & have posted before. It feels scary but actually isn't at all serious. Practice telling yourself that when you feel it & it helps.

Thank you so much Movielife I appreciate your reply and you're so right.

The last 2 days I've done my very best to.be active..I've done housework and even been out to visit my gran. I've not been shopping yet but I am.building my confidence again.

I said this to my husband..he isa very cautious gp anyway. He sends my kids to.hospital if he isn't sure what's wrong and he's spotted both times my kids were pretty ill and 1 needed an emergency op after another gp at the surgery misdiagnosed him. My husband says I need to trust him.

I still worry because even after 2 good days of I look at myself in the full length mirror I appear distant or fuzzy. Like I feel.dizzy and off balance even looking at myself
I've had that weensures and it panics me. I never told gp that but he knew my left eye had been fuzzy and he said both eyes looked fine when he checked them. I just keep worrying why can't I look at myself in the mirror it's odd.

Thanks again for your great reply.

Have you Autumn? The same feeling? For me it's just like the ground is soft or I am on a boat so I feel.off balance walking on it. My legs go heavy too. It's scary.

Even attempting a couple of yoga poses tonight I felt dizzy in my head. But not dizzy dizzy, more an off balance sway in my head if that makes sense.

Thank you for replying to me. It's a comfort knowing others can relate.

I know exactly how you feel I could not believe that anxiety could cause such physical symptoms ,but when I got really busy at work(I am self employed so couldn't have time off sick)I noticed the symptoms subside .I still have the occasional bad day but I am loads better . I also found it reassuring coming on this forum and seeing how commented dizziness, lightheadedness and floaty feeling s are. Take care

Three posts at the top of the sub-forum at the time I'm posting this talking about the same thing would indicate an anxiety and suggestion based symptom.

Not that you're not experiencing the symptoms, they're just being fed by the forum...

Same here. I joined up because I was sick of not knowing what to do.

Now I've admitted to family and friends that it is (currently) a problem, I've heard from others who struggle.

Normally I am quite high strung, and I can live with that, I personally think what is wrong with me is a HORRIBLE year of stress and too much going on. Moving house twice, moving jobs three times, a more minor health condition which isn't life threatening but upsets me, etc etc.

It all led to a meltdown. I knew it was coming. I felt it when I was trying to move to my now settled home.
