Hi all,

I went to see my GP last week. I had bad gastroenteritis on halloween and after that, my bowel was so stripped I didn't go til the following thursday (bug was a saturday). It went back to normal for a week but then I started experiencing urgency, where I would get cramps and have to rush. This happened every day so didn't think it could be down the the pregnancy constipation that I had had. The doc prescribed fybogel which I have been taking but when I was there he asked all sorts of questions and said 'as long as there isn't lots of mucus as that would warrant further investigation', It wasn't something I had ever looked for but lo and behold that day, stool was covered in clear mucus. That was last friday. Incidentally, he thought it was post-viral IBS.

Anyway, been taking the fybogel since monday, somedays a bit looser but the cramps stopped the same day I saw the GP too weirdly enough. Mostly I go everyday now and it seems back to normal but then last night it was a bit bulkier and covered in a yellowy mucus.

I am so so paranoid about pancreatic cancer anyway and this is just making me worse. I am going back to the GP on tuesday. I do have some sizeable haemorrhoids but I wouldn't know if they were internal or external. I can see them on the outside but I know you can with internal ones sometimes. I am just a mess. Has anyone any advice at all please?

I had a bought where I pooped black mucus for about a week. It took about a month for my stools to go back to normal. I would have yellow mucus on them sometimes white. My doc told me sometimes the mucus will take a shade of the color of your poo making it look brownish or yellow. Try to relax because the more you worry it affects your stomach they say. It did for me atleast. As for PC tell your doctor your worries I had a PC scare a few months back had an us and all looked good. Try to relax and stay away from Google lol.

I had an ultrasound in January….in fact I had 2!! One private, one NHS. Both we clear as were liver function bloods. But now I'm thinking, could PC happen that quickly or be hidden and they missed it?

I have had roids for about 19 years now. I've had mucus on stools throughout that period and it tends to be more when I've had the runs or needed to strain.

It's worth seeing the GP though with them saying they would want to investigate further but I wanted to post to show that it can be normal with roids and so cancer is not to be entertained on this basis...remember I've had it 19 years so if it were, I would have died long ago.

Thanks Terry. I think the first time, I wasn't straining but had been a bit backed up and the second time I did have to push a little bit so will hope that it is that or IBS!

I went to, the doctor with occasional diarrhoea and passing mucus. He said that passing of mucus needed to be investigated. I was sent to a colonoscopy and while chatting to the gastro specialist during the procedure he said that mucous was nothing to be worried about and mucus is your friend. Never worried since!

Is that even if the stool is covered in it? That's quite reassuring. What with that and upper back pain I'm so stressed about pancreatic cancer all the time. I haven't got any belly pain or loss of appetite or anything though
