Hi all, I'm 40, Irish and have had GAD for 6 years, though I suspect pretty much all of my life, looking back.
My GAD stems from family problems, my Dad has mental health issues which cause me endless stress and as the eldest of the family I've always been looked on to "fix" any family issues.
When I was first diagnosed I went to a counsellor for CBT, read many, many books and though it took about 6 months, eventually became "normal" again. Nowadays, I only get really bad anxiety a few times in the year. I'm on medication, Mitrazapine, which I've found good but mostly I've learned to calm myself, except in rare bad phases when I can't seem to stop the panic taking over.
