Feeling guilty about something

This may sound silly to some people because it does to me. I have anxiety / worry a lot and if it's not one thing it's another and atm I have been feeling very guilty over stuff.
The guilt that is bothering me now started with my mother in law buying my baby chocolates when we were out. I ended up eating most of them while we were looking around the shops. My mother in law then asked did she eat them all? I said yeah she did when really it was me! I just feel bad for
Lying and not saying it was me and being greedy.

Don't feel bad every parent has probably done it, I know I have. Do you feel guilty over things outside your control, I know at school, college and uni if ever a teacher or tutor said someone in class has done x I would feel guilty even when I knew it wasn't me. Do you fear or worry about being in trouble or having done the wrong thing, this sets my anxiety off, so I don't think you are being silly at all
