Hi folks. I'm new here and would appreciate your advice.
I have a trip to Bali from Ireland coming up on Friday and right now I'm so consumed by anxiety and even depression that I'm thinking of cancelling.
I'm going with a friend, he's ok with going alone I think but I really don't want my fearful self dictating my life.

I know that if I get there and I don't like it I can catch a flight home but still the thoughts of the trip there and "what if" when I get there has consumed me.

Please help!

Thank you.

Hi starblue,

Travelling can really set off anxiety with crowds and security checks and officious airline staff, no wonder some people get drunk when flying which i don,t by the way.

It can be an ordeal especially if you have delays and are tired and get claustrophobic in small seats but the ironic thing we are putting ourselves through this for a holiday to relax or to see exciting parts of the world. I have had more good trips than bad on long haul and it is really about getting the anxiety under control and enjoying the adventure and letting the bullshit go over your head! A good book, movie and nice meal helps a lot and most airport have free wifi so that can distract .

I used to fly to places for my job ie sunny Norway and it could be a stressful day and i understand the apprehension especially if you feel pressured into it .Meeting new people and being out of my routine abroad eventually wore me down and it can be expensive .

Anyway just some ideas.

Take Care
