Something in my eye?

Hi all,
I was awoken last night by my left eye being watery and red, as if I had poked myself in the eye during my sleep! Anyway, I went to the bathroom and washed my eye out which provided some relief and I went back to sleep. Upon waking up this morning I've got this feeling as if theres something in my eye, like an eyelash. I've looked at my eye properly and looked below my eyelids and theres nothing there! What could this be? Could an eyelash be stuck behind my eye?
