Hi, I have now tried 4 different SSRI's and would say none have helped really, has anyone else experienced this, and did you try any other meds?

Hi, I had a bad reaction to one SSRI and the psychiatrist refused to give me any others...long story short I'm now taking Mirtazipine and Venlafaxine - both antidepressants in a different class although I think Ven works as an SSRI at <150mg which is what I'm taking.

It's worth talking through other options with a doctor if you can.

Its common that the first 1 or 2 SSRI's that a person tries dont have an effective response when starting SSRI's due to anxiety/depression. But I find it strange that you have tried four with no positive response at all. How long have you been taking a course of each SSRI before stopping and trying another?

First one (fluoxetine) was 10 weeks, couldn't tolerate side effects
Citlaopram about 3 months
Venlafaxine about 4 months (I know this is not an SSRI)
Esccitalporam approx. 4 months and stll taking.

Is it possible SSRIs just don't work for me?

I'm exactly the same, I've tried 3 different SSRIs and Venlafaxine with very limited success. It does seem that they don't work for everyone.

I'm currently considering trying some other meds, though not sure what and I've not completely decided if I want to yet. I've got an appointment with my doctor to talk about it later this month. I'd suggest doing the same too :)

Venlafaxine about 4 months (I know this is not an SSRI)

It still works on Serotonin though, just Norepinephrine too. And until you hit 150mg a day with Ven, it's really a SSRI.

So, it's worth counting.

I've tried Citalopram for several years. Worked well. Starting helping in month 2 and then in month 3 more benefits.

Currently on Duloxetine. Epic fail. Gave me more side effects than my anxiety and created my OCD. My GP wouldn't have it and said it was my anxiety and I was naïve about it all back then.

Maybe, sounds like youve been taking them for the right period of time for them to take effect

Sounds like you need to go back to your doctor and discuss this with them in more detail

Thats terrible, Im sorry to hear that. There's bound to be other options for you - what about SNRIs? Remember theres always light at the end of the tunnel

I've tried venlafaxine, was on that for a few years, didn't do much. So frustrating. Feel like meds aren't doing it for me, but that also need some med help to get me going as exercise and CBT only help a bit. It's a genetic thing for me , runs on my mothers side

Join the club, Ive inherited it from my mum's side. Sounds like you need to get referred to a specialist rather than a regular GP
