Infected cut

Hi, I recently got a pretty bad cut on my ankle from a sharp metal edge on my couch. This was last week, and I never cleaned it or put antibacterial ointment on it. Now, it's very very itchy, red and swollen. Can I self treat this at home? I can't get into the doctors until Saturday the earliest. I'm worried I could die from this

Ahhh that's easily done. I've had that happen lots of times. Slather it in antiseptic... It will go down. Xxx

A little antiseptic cream, daily washes and a dressing. It may be red/itchy etc if it's healing. If there's any puss present continue with the plan above and book that doctors appointment just in case. You can always cancel. Try not to worry about it too much, I do exactly the same thing! There are always health services available 24/7 if you feel you need urgent attention but the signs you mention are all signs of healing and ankle wounds can take awhile due to there position.
