Hi Trish,

Did you ask your specialist WHY he wants to do this under general?

Perhaps they are concerned that you will have an anxiety attack during the procedure if you are awake? Or maybe there is a medical reason as to why they want to do it like this?

How accurate is the information you've been reading? I think you really need to discuss this with your consultant as what can be right for one patient can be wrong for another, if you know what I mean.

Can you maybe talk to your GP about this and see if they can find out why they want to do this; and if your GP agrees with the information you have found, then maybe he could intervene and stress how much anxiety this is causing you.

I really do think for your own peace of mind you need to speak to your specialist well before you attend for the appointment, otherwise you will be in an even worse state. I don't think anyone can force you into anything, and you need to be able to discuss it with them and understand their reasons before you go ahead with it.

I agree with Lass could you ask your doctor why this is and then you will feel more reassured.

I have to say I'm not keen on being awake for surgical procedures and was happy to be put to sleep when I had one of the piglets by caesarian, as opposed to staying awake under a local.

However I think alot of people do choose the local, when there is that option available to them.
