Just wondering if anyone has had or requested a Hysterectomy to combat Perimenopause symptoms? Considering finding out about going private and having one done to stop the heavy bleeding.

Hi, I requested a hysterectomy because of very heavy bleeding (amongst other horrible hormonal symptoms). My GP referred me to a consultant, he agreed to do it.

Initially, I had only my uterus removed (5 years ago almost), then 3 years ago I had to go back to have my ovaries, tubes and cervix removed (due to ongoing hormonal problems and some bleeding - yes, really - I still had some bleeding!).

I have not taken any HRT. It was a battle to NOT have it, I was only 39 at first surgery so both my GP and consultant really wanted me to take oestrogen. I think I have been lucky, in that my instant surgical menopause didn't bring any worse symptoms than I was already having.

There are alternatives - HRT etc... but I knew I wanted 'it all out'! Talk to your GP, I had both of my surgeries on the NHS.
