2. The brain & stomach are formed from the same tissue in the womb but split leaving the vagus nerve linking them.

3. Research into rats took place on the nerve in question, which is shown to relay signals from to brain-to-gut and gut-to-brain via separate channels. The brain-to-gut channel was severed and the rats subjected to fear-based stimuli. The fight or flight response was shown to operate in the brain and the gut, thus proving that the brain is not the only organ capable of triggering the symptoms seen from the fight or flight response. The gut-to-brain channel was observed sending signals to the brain.
