I have been quiet on here of late - I've been struggling but have just started receiving some additional help from an Occupational Therapist. Two years ago I had the same lady, but this time she is adopting a different approach.

I do have a fear of exercise and exertion - I believe this is connected why I cannot cope around the house.

So we agreed that my next session would not be at my house or at her office but in the swimming pool! Until six years ago I swam twice a week and enjoyed it, so felt this was a good way of getting the exercise regime back which I know is important.

Anyway, I turned up at the pool yesterday at 2pm - the arrangement was that she'd already be in there. Well, she wasn't and so just started swimming anyway - I could only manage a slow swim with a rest at each end, unlike the old days! I was in there for 40 minutes - the OT never did turn up and I haven't heard from her.

In the evening, I had to attend the self-help group that I run, and nobody turned up.

Afterwards, I felt totally crap with painful arms - I had challenged myself and experienced two "rejections" which always have a bad affect on me.

Now I am wondering how I will cope next time - will she turn up? will I have to go through the same pain?

So much for those endorphins kicking in after the swim....

Oh wow:D well done click:yesyes: You did this for yourself and i dont feel you need the validation of a rather poor[to say the least:mad:] O.C.Your arms ache cause you've used your muscles:D Please see this as a huge stepforward! As for the self help group, well mate you have helped yourself and that is the important thing.Dont see this as rejection[i too am sooo guilty of taking everything personally:blush: ]If folk dont come perhaps they are not ready to move forward with their problems.Imagine it was you,and you didn't feel up togoing, you would not be rejecting the group leader or the group would you,it wouldn't enter your head that someone would be upset by you not going. As for the OC i would report her ,that is down fight unprofessional:mad: But in a way ,my goodness she helped you beat your demons clickaway!!AND HOW:yesyes: Be proud of what you have done...you dont need her!Love Mary Rose.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I agree with Mary. RE the OT standing you up, you need to report a breach of trust. What if you had been at the pool all afternoon afraid to go in. She'd be responsible. Regarding the support group, it's their loss not yours. I'm sure most sessions you get some people showing up. I just wish I was a bit closer to Woking!

Piglet is not pleased that the person didn't turn up but is going to give the benefit of the doubt incase it was for a very good reason! :lac:

Oh my goodness me am I proud of you - you very clever old bean!! :yesyes:

You went there on your own and despite your misgivings got on and did what you set out to do that day. It would have thrown most of us not to have the arranged support there, let alone tackle an issue that scares and do it all on our own. Massive respect hun and much clicking of wrists in the Ali G style! :emot-worship:

You are bound to be achey now - those muscles haven't been used in a while and they are just reminding you of that fact :D . Youngest piglet and I have begun playing badminton in the garden again this week cos of the fine weather and my muscles are telling me the same thing

So very very impressed with you :D

Hi Ray

I think you did so well to cope in spite of the lack of help from your OT. Well done you :yesyes:

Now you have done it once and proved to yourself that it is ok do you think you could aim to go again? The first time is the hardest.

I'm sorry no one turned up to the group you run. It was unfortunate timing that it was the same day as the swimming challenge but nothing can take away from your success in doing it :)

This is definitely a huge success in my book!

:hugs: Well done you. You give us all hope, it just proves that you can do it if you try. As for the group I'm so sorry nobody turned up, I wish we had somebody running a group in my area. I hope the OT appologises, and turns up next time, but you don't need her for swimming now do you?:yesyes:

Ray

You did fab to even turn up and go swimming alone - well done!

Have you found out what happened to her???

It is mean she didn't turn up but to your credit that you stayed and swam a bit alone. That is fab in itself

Don't worry about the group - like others have said, sometimes people just can't or don't feel like going and don't realise it will upset anyone.

Things will pick up again so stick at it ok

I think you have done fab today!

If it helps I am aching like mad after spending 2 days gardening and uisng muscles I haven't for ages but it is all exercise at the end of the day isn't it.

Hugs mate
