i did take venlafaxine xr for 5 years and i think worked fine, after 5 years i stop taking it and because of family problems i started to suffer terrible anxiety and depression so i decided to go back on effexor xr , i have been on it at 150 mlg for 3 weeks and 3 days and i still feel bad my anxiety is a bit better but my mood still very down and i just want to stay in bed all day with very low motivation when i took effexor long time ago i do remember that in the 3er week i was feeling very good and now i dont feel even close to that!! i am afraid that the med is not working? can anyone on effexor xr can tell me how long takes to start working for real? please tell me

Hi there,

For me, I felt the initial effects after a month or so but I didn't feel the full effect for 3 months. You've started in quite a high dose (most start on 37.5mg and move up gradually) so you're bound to have some increased anxiety at first. Give it time, if it worked before, there's a good chance it will work again.

Take care

Pip

Hi
Venlafaxine is very effective for depression, with 6 weeks being the usual time for full effect, but that varies from person to person. Personally I started to feel benefits in about 4 weeks, hopefully you'll start feeling better soon.

Hi tor
For me 150mg seemed to be the right dose although I did go higher for a while. It also starts to help with anxiety first and then depression, I sounds like it's same for you.

Tor
I've been on Effexor for about 8 months now, I was previously on duloxeteine for a while but it didn't really do the job. The Ven has worked well for me so far, no real side effects or probs changing doses.
