hi all,
i'm facing surgery on Monday and a breast biopsy result afterward. My anxiety has been suppressed for a while, then now it's going insane over this ordeal. 6 months ago, I found a small lump on my left breast. Went to the doctor, then ultrasound. Result is probable benign fiobradenoa (don't know how to spell this) with 0.6cm in size. I asked for a biopsy regardless. I went there, the NP did another ultrasound to find the lump. she said what you are looking/feeling that's shown on ultrasound is a over-grown milk duct. these are normal and there is nothing for me to biopsy you.

I then waited 6months, do another followup. Same story. no change in size, same shape. this time I changed doctor so I asked for 2nd biopsy. Waiting 6months with anxiety is the max I can take. I went to a breast specialist. she didn't use ultrasound to exam me. she only exam me by hands, and suggest excercision to remove the lump because it's too small. Her reason is that once it's biopsied. if it's good, I don't need follow-ups every 6moths. She thinks it's probably benign, but again nothing is definite except biopsy.

Of course as the surgery approaching, i'm going nut with worries. I'm not worried about the surgery but the waiting for the biopsy result is driving me anxious already.

I know nothing is a definite diagnosis beside biopsy. However, are doctors honest? if they see something supspcious, will they tell us? so far all 3 doctors told me it's probably benign. the word "probably" is the one that drives me with fear.

thanks for listening. it sucks to be stuck in the anxiety cycle.

##########here is my ultrasound result######
29/16: LEFT BREAST ULTRASOUND

** HISTORY **:
Short interval followup for probably benign mass

** FINDINGS **:
TECHNIQUE: Targeted sonography of the breast(s) was performed by the sonographer and/or attending physician.

COMPARISON: 02/03/2016

Target US examination was performed at 6:00 in retroareolar over the palpable lump demonstrating a smoothly marginated avascular hypoechoic mass measuring 0.6 x 0.6 x 0.4 cm, most likely related to a fibroadenoma, stable in shape, size and echogenicity compared to prior examination. Recommend 6 month followup examination to assess for interval stability.

** IMPRESSION **:
Probably benign left breast mass at 6:00, retroareolar, measuring 0.6 cm (likely fibroadenoma). Recommend followup ultrasound in 6 months.

Results were discussed with the patient by the radiologist or radiology staff. Facility written notification letter was given directly to the patient at the time of interpretation.

BI-RADS 3 - Probably Benign.
Recommend follow-up examination in 6 months.

Everything you've written here, suggests that the lump is benign, there has been no change in shape and size which I'm sure there would be if this was indeed cancerous. This is only being done because you've pushed for it. I know how hard it is waiting for test results, but it will all be over very soon, and I'm sure everything will be fine.
This is your anxiety talking, and it's natural to feel like this.
Good luck and keep us updated.

Nhelen - the fact it hasn't changed, especially after 6 months is a really good sign. Doctors do tend to biopsy if they have even the slightest doubt.

I had a breast lump last year that was biopsiesd Turned out to be an abcess which I had to have drained etc.

All the best for Monday xxx
