View Full Version : Abdominal ultrasound - what can they see?
So my appointment for abdo ultrasound has come through quickly, it's next Wednesday.
I've been referred to check for gallstones even though my pain is not in that area.
I'm worried about stomach and bowel cancer. Can this be seen from an abdominal ultrasound?
Trying not to panic too much but it's hard 😕

Hi
I had an abdominal ultrasound a few years ago, when I had abdominal pains I thought I had bowel cancer, believe can see all organs from the bowel, stomach, liver and pancreas etc

I've had both upper abdominal and pelvic ultrasounds in the past, over 2 separate appointments.
From the abdominal ultrasound they can see all your organs including gall bladder, stomach etc.
Where abouts is your pain? Unless it's further down (around your Gynae areas) they are checking the right area with that scan

Abdominal ct would definitely pick up anything. Ultrasound would probably detect masses, such as tumors. Depends on where they are looking...obviously if they are only scanning the gallbladder it wouldn't show anything bowel or stomach related because they aren't looking at your bowels or stomach.
Well I think it's gallbladder area they'll be looking at, but I can't be sure. My pain is under the left rib area.

When you go for the scan, make sure you tell them and show them where you're pain is. Don't be afraid to speak up. They should scan the whole upper abdo area anyway I think .
Gall bladder pain is under ribs and also differed pain in shoulders/back bloody painfull but nothing to worry about x
