i have some oil lamps i want to upcycle and i cant find wicks or lamp oil anywhere i have all the major shops by me as i live in the west mids..

its not convenient for me to buy online at mo as im on holiday on my boat

i managed to make a wick out of a strip of towel but it gets all clogged up in the wick winder as its not a perfect rope shape it did burn though with diesel, not ideal but i just wanted to see it working

this is rather annoying

ive been advised i can use light olive oil i used some sunflower oil and that burnt for about 10 seconds ill buy some olive oil later if so

people use shoelaces as wickes online and make it look easy mine just melted everywhere take it they werent 100% cotton lol

Not a health question! The first thing I would say is to use only natural materials.

For the wick, cotton or linen. Do you have an old cotton vest (no polyester!) that you can tear up.

For the oil - well whale oil is no longer available, so if there is no better info available, just experiment until you get an oil that works. Best of luck.
