View Full Version : Waiting on Test Results

Dropped off a sample for testing at the lab (fecal fat if that's not TMI) a week ago. They send it out so it usually takes a week or so to come back.

Anyhow, it is not back yet and my GI doc won't be back until Monday. Her assistant said in these cases a lot of time no news is good news, and that often a lab will send preliminary reports if a test is not good.

I guess I am sort of confused by this--I have heard the "no news is good news" thing a ton and don't understand how the reporting would work. Do labs generally fast track reporting bad results? Isn't everything push of a button with regard to reporting?

Anyone want to take a crack at helping me (and others) understand this?

Labs generally fast track serious results, particularly when time is of the essence, yes. I know waiting sucks, but try not to worry. :)
