I have to have a needle biopsy this week as I went for a thyroid scan and the radiologist said I need one. I feel ill.

Have the biopsy and wait for the report - that's all you can do.

I don't know the statistics, but I suspect most medical tests these days come back negative - they are done "just in case".

My GP actually told me most blood tests come back normal. I would guess, like you, this would apply to all tests.

A relative had thyroid troubles last year. It was described as a 'mass', it was benign (needed an operation as it was causing hyperparathyroidism though, but simple procedure). Thyroid cancer is very rare from what I've read.

Thanks, KeeKee.

As an aside, when I said "negative" for a test, I meant the same as a normal result, as you have said. Unfortunately, a "positive" result on a medical test is what someone usually doesn't want to get.

Apart from that, testing has become so much cheaper in recent years due to improved technology. This just means many more tests, mostly with normal results. Nevertheless, they may catch the one person in a thousand who may have slipped under the radar otherwise.

My blood tests are all normal. I had an ultrasound 8 months ago and I had wee nodules but looked OK. This time it was a different radiologist who was concerned. I'm not coping with this.
