My 15 year old son came home from school today and said he had a nose bleed in school. And it was very bad. Surely this can't be a sign of anything serious, can it? I'm just in a very bad place lately with my HA so this isn't helping one bit. I haven't googled yet, and I WON'T!!!
A doctor did say a few years ago that he had nasal polys. Might this have anything to do with it?
Sorry if I sound ridiculous here. I just can't stop the worry at the moment :weep:

Nosebleeds are very common in his age group, they're usually caused by burst blood vessels within the nose. Recent colds or infections, blowing too hard, temperature and humidity changes and even picking can cause them.

The blood vessels in the nose and very fragile and it really doesn't take much to create a bleed. I really wouldn't worry about this at all. If they become very frequent and prolonged then it might be worth taking him to a doctor, but it really does just sound like an everyday nosebleed that we all get from time to time.

just want to stop by and tell you my daughter's story. for some periods of time, she would have weekly nose bleeds. I'm first-time mom so you could imagine the same scare that i had like yours. I took her to her pediatrist, pediatric ENT, and going through like 10 different kinds of blood tests because of the fear of the big C. everything turned out alright.

her doctors explained that the inside of her nostrils are very fragile. Any dry air or mild irritation can cause that. Or sometime, it happens for no reasons. As long as your son's CBC blood tests within a year are okay, please do not worry. Unless he has nosebleeds like 4 times a week, then yes, they will investigate or refer him to specialists. Even in that case, it is more like some nose issues, and not something serious.
