'Dark and Hungry'

A dark and hungry god arises
Arises in us all
Consuming our complicit neurons
Spewing out our warped lives
A dark and hungry state
Rising up around us
Firing in the cerebrum, thalamus, and hypothalamus
Frontal lobe, emoting, moving, reasoning, emotional
Parietal lobe, perceptive, stimulated, orientational
The cortex wrinkled making us more efficient
Our anxiety codified in our memories
In our Temporal lobe, adventures in catastrophe
The cerebrum furrowed in two halves
Like the Devil our self critic
and Angel our self compassion on our shoulders
Grey nerve cells a little thicker than a thumb
Panic and Depression making us numb
Human, higher than a primate
Lowered by the fear inate
A brain when cut through
Looking like off cauliflower
Our feelings mildew with the long let tears of our sorrow
Our imagined ills causing us more pain than a knife
Our brains like chains
Having fearful dominion over us
The dominion we gift to our Illness
