Hi all,

I just wondered what your experiences were with frequent visits to your GP?

I am visiting my GP once every 2 weeks and although he is great at the moment, i can't help but feel like that I'm going to start irritating him.

I'm not sure what I'm asking really, just wondered how you have worked through this with the GP?

Cheers.

Hi there x.
i meet my gp every two-three weeks, it was her suggestion because every meeting i can talk about my health concerns and we can try and work out my health anxiety, i do feel like i annoy her sometimes but she assures me that i don't because it's her job :)

I go to my GP on average every 6 weeks and feel like a pest. However I'm sure most GP's would tell us if they felt we were going too much.

Don't fret, it's their job to treat you--that's what they spent six years plus, studying to help patients like you become a healthier person both physically and mentally.

I was worried (well my parents thought I be deregistered from the practice I am registered to for going to much in 2012/13)

If you got a problem it is the GP to find the cause of the problem (symptoms, pain etc)

As long as you have genuine concerns, and you listen to their words and expert advice, then they have no reason to be annoyed.

It's when people don't listen to the advice that it becomes annoying.

Ive had to go to the doctor once aweek for the passed few weeks... but this time its been two weeks due to her being off last week... i feel like she helps allot and going this long has sort of made me quiet anxious... to the point ive had to write things down to take with me, she is very helpful and it was mainly her idea that i keep coming back to speak with her..

So no i dont think you should worry about irritating him, at the end of the day thats what they are there for, to help.

I imagine most GPs would consider twice a year to be roughly normal, unless there is some condition that requires more frequent consultation.

In Australia, GPs can write six-month prescriptions for many medications (not benzodiazepines) if they feel the patient needs ongoing treatment. If there is a physical issue, what else can a GP do, apart from schedule tests or refer you to a specialist?
