View Full Version : Another job rejection.

A few weeks ago, I applied for a job within the company I'm volunteering at. In effect, it was my job with a part-time salary, slightly more responsibility and more hours, I didn't even get an interview for it, which made me feel massively underappreciated, I've only just managed to get over it. Now a few days, I applied for a great job, very similar duty wise and I did fit the criteria. Once again, rejected without an interview. I could deal with either rejection better if I'd got an interview, but I didn't even get that either time. (Maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up so often.)

I've been offered an interview for a cleaning job, which a recruitment agency suggested when I applied for another job with them, I don't think I can bring myself to go to it, I'm that downcast and demoralised. I've been trying for ages with nothing to show for it, whoever says you reap what you sow or similar phrases is full of shit. *sighs*

Don't forget the rules of thumb: 100 job applictions turn into 10 job interviews turn into 1 job offer. What you'll see then is basically no-no-no-no-...-yes! As you will only get one (1) "yes", and then you stop searching, you'll experience far more "no" answers. Probably it's also biased so you get more interviews toward the end of your search when you've got a bit more practice from writing many application letters.

You should of course go to the interview, just for the practice of having an interview. Simple.

I've compiled a playlist for you mrjonesmcr, try listening to it while staying 'downcast and demoralised' :) It's with a Scandinavian artist called Robert Broberg. I remember him already from when I was a child, in the late 1960's. He was like this, optimistic, his entire life.

You have my sympathy mrjonesmcr. The job hunt is hard. But I second randomforeigner - you will get many no's before you get to yes - I've been there too. Some days, I just sent out resumes and cried. But you will eventually get to yes if you persevere. Doesn't make it any easier, but hopefully it makes you feel like you are moving toward something.

I've applied for 200 this week, it's about average most weeks. Yet, I've got one interview out of it, I don't even want that interview. *sighs*[COLOR="blue"]

I've been persevering for months, yet I've got nothing to show for it. It's very frustrating.

I was out of work in 2014 and know what you`re going through, all I can say is do the best cv you can and tailor it for the job - I don`t mean lie, just make it stand out as much as you can that you are worth looking at. don`t pad it out just make it as good as you can.
I don`t know if you already are, but I`d join linkedin which is like facebook but for industry, and then put your cv out on cv library, reed, monster, any possible job search site you can think of.

don`t give up. when I finally got an interview for the job I`m doing now I stammered and went blank more than once. sensing it was slipping away I stopped and said look I`m sorry for the nerves but it would mean the world to me to be given a chance and I won`t let you down.

I hope you get that same sort of chance soon, keep your head high and you`ll find something eventually.

Oh, 200 jobs in one week. Perhaps you apply to too many, it's a numbers game, but in a way it's not. May one ask what kind of job you're looking for (apart from the obvious 'anything'), what did you do before, and what would be your dream job? What is the main issue, do you think?

I think if I add up all jobs I've applied for they might sum up to about 200, over a lifetime, I've landed something close to eleven or thereabouts. I would like to say something positive that might cheer you up, but it seems difficult. As for LinkedIn I have it, but it hasn't really yielded anything jobwise. I like it a lot but don't use it in the traditional way. Instead I follow really a lot of companies and pages, but as for recruiters contacting me, zilch. I applied for one job recently, and landed it. Luck or skill, I cannot say.

I was in a similar situation a while back so know how you are feeing perhaps tone it down a bit and don't take it personaly which is not easy I know!! Many applications don't even get looked at and filed under 'B' for bin so it's not just your applications that are getting rejected m8 :) Good luck!!
