Can a stitch last for more than a few hours??

I decided I'd start walking today, trying everything to get my life back on track.
I'm very unfit I have to admit. So today I went for a small walk - only about 20 mins. I wasn't power walking, just a nice steady pace. About a half an hour after I came home I got an awful stitch in my side. I presumed it was a stitch anyway, but I still have it, about 5 hours later.
Is that possible?? Is it because I am so unfit? Trying not to let my mind wander and think it's something else.

If you're very unfit, it's definitely possible to feel discomfort from any physical activity your body isn't used to. Whether you have a stitch or not I can't say, but it's very easy to draw a line from your walk to your physical discomfort.

Keep up the walking as it's a very positive step forward (literally!).
