Can new freckles appear and be very dark in colour?

My HA is not good at the moment. I'm booked in for counselling but unfortunately that won't start till some time in the new year. I'm also waiting on results of a mole biopsy, which I also won't get till the new year.
Anyway I found a new freckle yesterday, and I hate to say it's in a very private place :ohmy:
But what's scaring me is that it's very dark in colour. I immediately associate dark things with trouble!!!
Can normal freckles be very dark in colour, and can they also appear anywhere on the body?
I don't want to google the answer to this, as I KNOW what it will tell me :mad:

Yes definitely as I've had them myself. Had one appear on my palm two years ago and it was a really dark brown. Had it looked at but my doc said stuff like that randomly happens with age x

I got over this fear recently, had a dark one appear on my ankle! Realised i had one or two (probably more) over the years if i look back in photos)Obviously i freaked out but its not changed in over a month. It's fine :)
