Hello
I have been doing really well with my health anxiety but just yesterday i have had a spike due to a mole issue.
headline:
1. Mole was seen by physio who said do you have that checked?

2. went to a high street mole clinic (the mole clinic in Argyll st) ; nurse took pics; sent to a doctor who appears to be a GP - report sent back today which said "severely abnormal mole....other possible diagnosis melanoma". Obviously made me worried. NB: The image has been remotely analysed only by the doctor.

3. went for second opinion IN PERSON with harley street plastic surgeon and lesion specialist today. He looked at it and said he was not concerned at all and to return in 1 year. He said it did not look like a mole to him; more a skin pigmentation issue. He looked at rest of torso and back under a light.

fears:
1. Did the plastic surgeon specialist look too quickly - he was rushing.
2. Did the surgeon look at the right mole - hard to miss as i don't have many
3. is it possible the surgeon made an error.

the rational part of my brain is saying
1. the surgeon is not an idiot - he looked at my back with a microscope and emphatically said do not worry. he said he did not classify it even as a mole but more a skin pigmentation issue. He acknowledged that it was irregular and had two colours but i did ask him again at paying and he said that to him, that was not a significant issue.
2. if the surgeon was doubtful would he risk his career to ignore an obvious melanoma?
3. could a gp possibly have the same level of diagnostic expertise from a set of photos vs a plastics consultant who specialises in cancer?

i will - to be sure to be sure - probably go and have a third opinion post xmas but just wondered if anyone has experience with moles and this kind of thing!

James, just go get it taken off, it's not worth this agony.

I agree with Nancy. Have it removed. Then, the worry is gone. Did that myself about 3 weeks ago.

If the surgeon was a lesion specialist who examined the mole in person and was not concerned, then yes, that far outweighs a GP who only saw a photograph.

Nevertheless, see a dermatologist who can remove the mole and also have a biopsy done. Those two things are as close to certainty as you can get.
