So..
I've had a tight throat now for 9 months. Sometimes it feels like a gagging feeling, and an incredible tightness just above the adams apple, under my chin. Also, my throat clamps shut for less than a second at times when i inhale.
These symptoms more or less disappear when i eat, or when i excert myself physically. For instance, if I go out for a run, my symptoms disappear up to 90%.
Also, after I've been training, whether it be running or going to the gym, I feel better in general, mostly in the way that I don't think as much about my throat, however the symptoms do come back after training.

Googled this extensively, which is probably why my anxiety has just gotten worse and worse. I am currently going to CBT therapy.
However, after all the googling I've done, my symptoms seem to be caused by either acid reflux or anxiety.
I'm thinking though, as I usually feel better when running, doesn't this point more towards anxiety, as from what I've read, sufferers of reflux feel worse when the run or jog?

Anybody here with reflux who can relate to what I've written?

Happy new year to all of you! :D

I just wanted to pop in and let you know i have the same thing going on. Have you been to see your doctor yet? I haven't yet. I will wait it out another two weeks to see if it goes away! I know how uncomfortable it can be !

Hi there you two! x.
i have the same feeling especially the gagging and tight feeling, i think it comes with my silent reflux because it usually happens after i eat it's horrible it makes you want to gag and makes you feel like you're going to choke although i've had it over a year and i haven't, i've been to the doctors and i've had an ultrasound, blood work ect, i'm meeting a gastro expert on the 17th so i can always update you both on how that goes if you'd like, i'm putting it down to either globus or reflux because that's my best explanation but i've had it every day of my life for just over a year now so i'd say it ain't too much to be terrified about x

Hi there Ethansmom

Yeah I went to a doctor in July, and as it was a GP she mainly looked for something that could be serious, and didn't find anything sinister.
As I have a history of anxiety, she referred me to a ENT specialist, mainly for my own "peace of mind" (she asked me if I wanted to see the ENT) but after a three month wait, I cancelled it rather foolishly. The reason was that my symptoms at that time weren't causing me so much distress.
Typically, about two weeks after I cancelled, I started to focus on my symptoms lot more...

Hi Sam!, my symptoms get better when I eat. Weird, I feel kind of gagged and choked when I get hungry.

If it is reflux, I could probably live with it (that is discomfort in the throat and upper stomach), but my symptoms ALWAYS go hand in hand with anxiety. So question is, does reflux cause anxiety? If one has issues with ones throat, does that trigger anxiety?

Hate this!

Half will be reflux and the other half will definitely be your anxiety making it worse, reflux and ibs are common with people who suffer from anxiety especially HA because it makes them worse x
