Hello,

once again back here with some HA, I have ordered pizza with corn, pineapple and tuna (without cheese). But the tuna tasted quite bitter. I have noticed that everytime I have tuna from can on my pizza baked, it smells very strongly and sometimes tastes very bitter.

But i am still worried, maybe it was bad tuna? I doubt pizza company would risk food poisioning their customers, but is it really normal for pizza with tuna to taste this bitter?

Thanks!

I can't stand tinned tuna and don't eat it so can't comment on its taste, but I think you've rationalised it at the end of your post. Also tinned food lasts a very long time so it's unlikely it would have gone off. You'll be fine.

Seems I forget that "canned" taste but remember it quickly when I eat it again.

I would never think to put canned tuna on pizza especially not with pineapple. And I do wonder if it's the combination of the pizza toppings that either bring out or don't sufficiently cover up that can taste. Usually when I make canned tuna its surrounding is mayonnaise and pickles so I don't taste.

I'm sure it was not spoiled but maybe next time forget the tuna on your pizza LOL

Canned tuna tends to be tinned with brine, basically water and sea salt. Anything brined has a more bitter, salty taste, obviously because it's sitting for long periods of time in salty water.

I can get past corn, pineapple and tuna on a pizza.....WTF....

Maybe it was canned in brine and you are used to the taste of tuna canned in oil? I suggest olives, capers and anchovies topping. :emot-drool:

Well, if this is something you've noticed repeatedly (you said "Every time I have...."), then it probably doesn't represent tainted food, or you would've gotten sick before.
I put Crab Delites (imitation crab meat chunks made out of cod) on a frozen cheese pizza recently, and it tasted very different on pizza than it does by itself. Maybe some interaction with the tomato sauce, I don't know.

I love tuna but I'm boaking at the thought of it with pineapple.

If the smell and taste offends you, give the tuna a miss from now on?

Never tasted tuna and pineapple combination :)
If the tuna was bitter, I think maybe it was over cooked?

All I'm gonna say is that's a very "different" combo for a pizza!

I wouldn't be concerned but then I wouldn't eat it anyway ~lol~

Yep, that's going to be it. I love tinned tuna.

Maybe they don't let it sit out of the tin before using it? We do.

We had pizza for dinner this evening... feta, spinach, mozzarella and a white garlic sauce.

No canned/tinned taste there. Yum!!

Have to go with Fish on this. To each their own of course, but pizza with corn, pineapple and tuna without the cheese...can't seem to grasp that one. Can it be pizza without cheese?
