Hi all,

I've been prescribed 10-20mg (now 25mg from my doctor) of ami for sleep issues.
The 10mg worked fine for the first night then 20mg was fine for a bit but now I find I'm having trouble sleeping again

Does anyone know if 30mg would help more for sleep or is there a specific dose for making you sleepy?

Thanks,

HB xx

I take 75mg for anxiety but it's not working very well for that right now. It did at first and I actually slept for 18 solid hours but now I wake up every night but nothing really knocks me out for long.

Thanks for the reply :)

I'm going to try the 30mg tonight, if it makes me zombie like tomorrow I'll cut down to 25mg.

Immediate-release trazodone (Desyrel) would be a better sleep aid, imho. Not only is it a more powerful histamine H1 receptor blocker, aka antihistamine, which is what triggers the sedation, but it has a shorter half-life, 3-4 hours compared to 12-24 h for amitriptyline, so there is less chance of a sedation 'hangover' the next morning. It also tends to produce fewer side-effects.
