Hey everyone,
Does anyone's mouth not feel totally "smooth" when running your tongue around it? On both sides of my cheeks, right where they lay against the teeth on the bottom, they kind of feel scratchy...similar to a cats tongue? Odd comparison I know....I am unsure if this is how they normally feel or not, naturally I'm sick to my stomach about it. I do have dry mouth and was to the dentist in October, I go every six months...surely if it were oral cancer it wouldn't be in two spots symmetrically opposite each other right? I'm only 30 and do drink occasionally :(

There you go. That's rational logic creeping into your mind, BTW. You just answered your own question. :winks: Nothing to worry about.

Hey again Jill!

I believe I posted some common symptoms of oral cancer in a post you've done before, it's very unlikely to be oral cancer.

Just calm down and think things through, even an oral cancer survivor stated above that they don't believe it's oral cancer but if you're scare still I suhhest seeing a doctor or dentist if it'll make you feel better.
Or you could try talking to others on here about it!
It's always good to get a health scare of your chest
I hope you feel better soon

Remind me to stay away from that thread.
If I read those symptoms, I would definitely start worrying about having oral cancer myself.

Shoot I'm sorry about posting some signs it's very unlikely you'd ever develop it yourself chances are very slim, slimmer than a piece of dust !

Thanks for the replies, and you're right, sometimes it feels good to get a good health scare off your chest! The thing I hate about mouths and mouth worries is that it's something you can see and poke and prod at yourself, I've been looking inside mine with a flashlight for days and analyzing the different textures and bumps, it's maddening because no two areas are exactly identical!

My spiral into HA started a few years ago with mouth cancer fears. I was beyond obsessed, my family were actually really worried about me. Hours and hours reading about symptoms and shining a torch in my mouth. Even an ENT specialist couldn't convince me I was alright. He also said 'the only thing people should be Googling is the price of a new car'. He couldn't believe I'd actually got myself so frantic over Google and said he'd seen 3 other people that day who'd been reading up on oral cancer and become overnight experts.
My mouth is different totally from one side to the other, that's why I was demented. I do still worry about it a bit, got dentist on Thursday so trying to stay sensible for that!

Ugh I know! The mouth is a weird scary place, especially when shining a flashlight in there...I see red spots, veins, and sometimes those broken capillary spots; all of which send me into a downward spiral, and of course, usually the one and only thing Google ever suggests is mouth cancer.

I think your fine I too get extremely dry mouth during periods of panic and I drink a ton of water and In mean a crap ton but it doesn't help. The only thing that I found helped my dry mouth was chewing gum it worked a treat for me it could work for you give it a try :) good luck take care

I guess I just don't understand why Google always automatically goes to cancer all the time; if you Google ANY mouth symptom, oral cancer is the first thing to show up

I'm also a serial googler if that's even a word lol I just struggle to match anxiety with pains I just can't get my head around it even though I know there's nothing wrong with me I just cant relay that to the brain it seems to do what it pleases honestly try the chewing gum couple of days on that I forgot about the dry mouth, Obviously moved onto another sensation or pain but the dry mouth was easily fixed for me

I will try, thank you; and you're right about water-- it never seems to help me either.
