View Full Version : Introduce My Self

Hi, I'm Lisa, I tried posting yesterday, but I don't see it; so here goes again. I am 35, married and live in Durham, Ontario, Canada. I have had different levels of anxiety for at least 10 years. Currently, I am not experiencing full blown panic attacks, but I fight with this everyday of my life. To everyone else, I am sure they see nothing wrong, but after reading Nicole's Story, it was like reading a story about myself. I don't like elevators, I don't like being a passenger in a car, I won't take any new medications, not even Tylenol, because I get EVERY side effect possible. The thing that scares me the most is this; I know it's in my mind, I know I can talk myself out of an anxiety attack as easily as I can talk myself into one, but that doesn't seem to help. I like to use an expression to explain my self that I have read many times in different books; "a generalized feeling of discomfort". I have taken medication, I have seen a doctor, and it did help when I was in my worst stages, but it does not seem to help for how I feel today. I have learned to cope quite well, but the problem still exists, and I am very happy to see there is a site like this where we can talk and help each other.

It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.

It is impossible to get out of a problem by using the same kind of thinking that it took to get into it.

Hi Meg,

The answer to your question is two fold; "NO", I cannot talk myself out of having anxiety; but I most defenitely can talk my self out of letting an anxiety attack escalate; and turn into a full blown panic attack. I do that on a daily basis. Your links are good and make a lot of sense; thank you for sending them to me.

Lisa,

That's really excellent that you can talk yourself out of an escalation as it shows that you have the ability to stop the anxiety rising totally.
You're only a couple of steps away from being fine.
