Hello everyone, just a quick question, if I see a private consultant can I request my dr is not notified ? I won't bore you with the details but I have a recurring worry and I'm to embarrassed to see my dr, and I know they won't take me seriously. I feel a little bit like the boy who cried wolf :-( xx

I cant speak for the UK but if I seek out someone for a medical procedure on my own, they cant notify anyone without my express written consent.

IF MY DR orders the test they will give him the results.

Hello Rebecca, if you can manage to find a private consultant who will see you as a self-referral (a lot of specialists require a GP referral even if you pay privately), they should be fine with not writing to your GP. I have just had a private appointment with a Sheffield consultant without her having to write to my GP. Obviously if treatment/intervention is required, you would want your GP on board, but if it is just for consultation and peace of mind, it should be fine to keep things between the private doctor and you. Best wishes, Annie
