I know i need to go to the dentist but Im so scared, my teeth are not good at all and my health anxiety makes me think of the worse outcomes. I have always had a fear of the dentist since havnt teeth removed as a little kid (I'm 17 now) but it's got so much worse since developing Heath anxiety. I barley brushed them because of depression and now some of them grey and I have a cavity in one I think. I'm always thinking of the worse case like having to have them all removed then be left with gaps or getting a bad infection from the work I have done on them. I'm going to get my mum to book an appointment but how do I deal with the anxiety leading up to it?

I was the same after a bad experience with a dentist. I now go to a dental clinic that specialises in anxiety and phobia and they have been great in getting my confidence back.

These days, dentists are well aware of the phobias concerning dental work and as Annie said, there are many clinics and dentists that work well with helping to ease your anxieties. You just have to ask and be up front about it. As far as leading up to it? You could always ask your doctor for a chill pill.

My previous dentist would only treat me if I signed to say I had not taken any of my anxiety meds! My new one is happy for me to take a diazepam before I go and he never rushes me and is so understanding. I feel so much better about going now.
