So last night I was having severe chest pain, thought it may have been PE so they took a D-Dimer test. The doctor said the test came back negative for PE but wouldn't it also mean it's negative for DVT as well. I just thought I read the D-Dimer test looks for thrombosis which includes PE and DVT. I'm just trying to get this anxiety out of my head. So would a negative test rule out PE and DVT??

Presumably this test was carried out at a hospital or by a medical professional somewhere?

So, why would they send you home if the possibility of something as serious as a DVT was still there? They wouldn't.

Yes it was done at the ER. I was just curious if the D-Dimer ruled out both DVT and PE?

I don't know the answer.

But it doesn't matter. You were sent home, which means you're fine.
