I want to see a psychiatrist. How?

I've been suffering from unwanted thoughts, anxiety etc for 8 years now. Can I just ask my doctor outright to see a psychiatrist? My therapy wasn't very helpful and I feel like I want a proper diagnosis.

Depends on your health care system. I'm in the United States and I go to a clinic for my health care. My care provider is a nurse practitioner and she is able to prescribe me my medication. I also see a social worker for therapy. Hope this helps.

Hi, speaking from experience you can ask your doctor, depending where you are in the UK waiting times vary( where we live it was 6 months), quicker for urgent cases. Or you could look at private, can be expensive but you will get seen sooner. Often you need a doctor's referral for that too. I would def speak to your gp to start ball rolling. Take care x
