Hi everyone,

It's been a very long time since I have visited this forum and a lot has happened since I last logged in.

This forum has helped me so much in overcoming my demons and getting on the road to a better place, but it all took a bit of a battering when my sister was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year. It was located right on the brain stem and we were told if they didn't operate immediately then she would die within the week. As you can imagine this was devastating news, but in a strange way it helped me to become stronger because she needed me to be strong and so did my mother. She was rushed to a specialist hospital 40 miles away from where we live and me, my mother and my father all went with her, prepared to stay by her side whatever the outcome.

As a student paramedic, I was probably a little more aware than my mother and father of how sick my sister was and that was terrifying, but I had to support mum and dad and get my sister through this operation.

We were all prepared to pay for hotel rooms for the duration of her time in hospital so that we could be at her bedside as soon as we needed to be. Then Ronald McDonalds House Charity (RMHC) came to our rescue!

RMHC provides FREE accommodation for the families of sick children in specialist hospitals so that they don't have to worry about paying for hotel rooms and missing work to be with their child/sibling. There was a phone in our room that connected us to my sisters bed so that she could talk to us or ask us to be with her when she needed us in under five minutes.

This charity saved our lives! We could stay for as long as we needed to. Thankfully, after an 11 hour operation, my sister's brain tumour was removed successfully and she is on the road to recovery that includes learning to walk again. She will always have double vision and balance and memory problems but we are all grateful she is alive and so thankful to RMHC for giving us somewhere to stay so we could be there at all times in case the worst happened.

For christmas, I got given an experience day to do the UK's longest zip wire. It is 70m high and 700m long and reaches speeds of up to 40mph and I suddenly had an idea to use it as an opportunity to try to raise some money for RMHC. No amount of money I give to them can express the gratitude I have for the charity but I want to at least raise something.

So I'm putting it out there and asking if anyone on here would be interested in sponsoring me and raising money for a fantastic and one of a kind charity. Because I am asking this, I have decided to donate the money to the whole charity rather than the specific house we stayed in, so everyone who donated will be making a difference in their area somehow.

Even £1 can make a huge difference as that pays for the phone link for a day, which is vital for children who are in hospital and may want to talk to their parents if they wake up scared in the early hours.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
