I'm so scared this morning it's horrible. For about the past week I've been seeing a black dot in my vision, mostly in my right eye, when I open my eye. It goes away after a few seconds but if I close my eyes and open the right one again it's always there. I'm going to the opticians this morning for an eye test and I'm so bloody scared. I've never had anything like this before.
Of course I'm thinking the absolute worst cause I just don't understand what could be causing this.
Sorry about the rant but this is the only place I get to talk to people about these kinds of issues..
The optician should be able to see if there's something wrong, shouldn't they?

Thanks. I will give an update here later on but what's really making me scared is I remember reading before that there's a lot of eye conditions that opticians can't diagnose, they aren't even equipped to look at certain things.
Does anyone know if this is true?
I don't want them to say they'll just refer me on somewhere, which means in this country I'll be waiting weeks or months. I won't be able to deal with that!

Well I went to the opticians and had an eye exam. She couldn't find anything wrong, said everything that she checked looked fine and healthy. But I know there's a lot of things opticians can't check in the eyes.
She referred me to an eye specialist, to put my mind at ease she said. But she saw no red flags.
I have to wait about 2 months to see the specialist.
I can't stop worrying now. Should i be happy that she said everything looked fine, even though she is limited in what she can see?
Any advice anyone, 2 months is a long wait :weep:

Opticians are eye experts with considerable training and expertise. I don't care how much they can and can't see. If the optician isn't worried, neither am I. It's that simple.

Sounds like a "floater" dont worry, they would have urgently referred you if they thought it was anything really serious. Take care :)

Hi, sorry you are still worried. Sounds like shes made the referral to reassure you not because she was concerned. Yes its a long wait but she saw nothing that worried her & she would have said if there was something that did. You did well going today & it sounds like you are fine. xx

Thanks for the reassuring replies.
I know I have to keep telling myself that the optician knows a lot more about eyes than me (which is nothing really) and if she was concerned I probably would have got a quicker referral.
It's frightening how HA can take control over a person's life. If only there was a "cure" for it................

If you can't believe a medical professional, nothing said here will help that :(

The thing is, you can take steps to help yourself. It's hard work but like they say... anything worth having....
