as some of you know i have a great deal of anxiety about my lymph nodes in my neck as you can see from my previous threads. wel i have a doctors appointment i set up in a few days just to go over everything, but im starting to think that maybe i have a mental problem more than a physical problem when it comes to health conditions, so instead of wasting another trip to the doctors office and being told the same thing again i thought about setting an appointment up with a therapist and see what options are available to treat my anxiety. if you have read my previous threads and know my situation i would like to get your thoughts on this, should i push for more tests, or should i see a therapist for the anxiety thats pushing me to the doctors office in the first place?

I think cancelling your appointment and seeking help is a great start! the root f your anxiety is what's causing the whole cycle, if you get to the bottom of that you can get to the bottom of it all x

All the best :hugs:

I had 2 or 3 years of pestering the Dr every time a new symptom cropped up. They did tests, said I was fine but I continued to worry. It got to the point that no amount of Dr's advice would provide any closure or peace of mind for me. The Dr might say you're fine. But your anxious mind will no doubt say afterwards:

What if he missed something?
What if something has got worse?
What if the pain is now cancer?
What if blah blah blah

For many people 1 symptom follows another. You spend X amount of time focusing on 1 symptom/issue and then a new one comes along and you then focus on that. More often than not the previous symptom disappears.

Definitely see a therapist. But don't you need a referral from a doctor to do that anyway? In Australia you do. If you do too then I would keep the doctor's appointment. If you don't then you are going to wish you had later.

Yes way forward for this is to tell your dr no more tests but feel you have a MH condition HA and could they kindly refer me (that's you) to a specialist for therapy! Good thinking there Thelegend :) so keep your appointment as I know how hard it can be to get another one just like that. Good luck and keep us posted Cheers

Therapy has improved a great deal. See if you can find a cognitive behavior therapist. This will teach you how to cope with your thoughts instead of a therapist taking notes, nodding their head and talking about your childhood. They will give you tools to use as well. I think you made the proper decision in your care! Good luck!

My doctor already gave me a referral to see a therapist but i haven't set that appointment up yet. Some of you were saying i needed a referral so i wanted to clear that up.

You know what I'm going to say right? ;)

You have a referral... Time to use it!
