Hi, my name is Emma, i am 31 years old and my first panic attack happened when i was 18. They were infrequent to start with, but from the age of 20 they got silly! I was put on beta blockers and anti depressants and was having two panic attacks every day for 3 years straight. I never left the house and my life ground to a halt, i was a chronic insomniac as i was afraid to go to sleep as the panic attacks were worse if i woke in the middle of one. This carried on till i was 26 then suddenly they disappeared, poof! No panic attacks, no anxiety, nothing. I began to get my life back and it was great. Now, i'm 31, my mother has terminal cancer and my panic attacks are back, different and vicious and i don't know how to handle them as it's been a long time! I'm back on the beta blockers but i don't get the racing heart like i used to, i just get a flood of adrenaline in my gut like i just got startled, then i struggle to breathe in, then i start to shake, feel very dizzy and "drunk" like then i need to find a loo.......fast!!!!! In the old days i would hyperventilate, get palpitations and throw up, it was much easier for me to deal with!! I have had a bad attack every night this week, they always happen at night, and i'm terrified that i will end up how i was, locked in my self made prison, too afraid to face life and wishing it would end. I have a bundle branch block in my heart which is harmless but the skipped beats trigger attacks which doesn't help. If you can offer any tips, i would be grateful, i have never heard of panic attacks going away, then coming back different, but if you have, fill me in...please!!!! Thanks for the chance to blurt!!
Emma.

Hi Emma, big :welcome:to you!

You do have a lot on your plate don't you?

I can't comment on the 'heart' bit of your post, but I know how you feel about not wanting to go to sleep because of the fear of having a panic attack in the night. For me that was the worst time and lack of sleep just increased the likelihood of having one:weep:. They went after I was on meds for 6mnths. But now I find I tend to wake in the morning feeling a bit 'iffy' and those familiar feelings - like the 'fizzy' rush of adrenalin - try and creep back. I have had a couple of PA's cince I came off meds and yes, they were different - or at least they felt different.

So, you're not alone!

You'll get plenty of help and support here, I guarantee it!
