Hi.

My girlfriend is having a rough time at the moment.
Both of us have mental health problems; mine being health related OCD and anxiety.
I'm not really sure exactly how to categorise what hers is and how to get help for it.

She has an immense fear that I am going to leave her, go off with someone else, that I don't love her etc.
That she isn't good enough, is ugly, and that I should just dump her because she is worthless.

Is this ROCD? BBD? Both? What is the best way to treat something like this?

Thanks a lot.

Hi LG18 Low self esteem, lack of confidence springs to mind on this, so I would go back with the GF to the drs and discuss various treatment options once a diagnosis has been made It's the only way forward on this :) Cheers

Thanks for the reply.
She did go to the doctors but they pretty much said she just had to get over it unfortunately - obviously they weren't up on mental health or considerate about it.

I've read up on ROCD and it seems many people with it are concerned that their partner is not good enough, where as she is worried that herself is the one not good enough.
Do you think it isn't OCD, then?
She definetly has a totally warped self body image too, which is why I thought it could be Body dismorphia.

Mate that's terrible and totally inconsiderate gets my goat up. with any specialist MH treatment you often need a dr's referral this sucks! What I would do is go back and get a different dr who does care and will take notice! And not being a dr my self well it could be OCD not heard of ROCD so cant help on that. But like I say with out a dr's
referral it's going to be difficult in the mean time I would contact your local Mind office for further advice is your GF on any meds atall? Really wish you well on this mate :) Cheers

This is what OCD UK state:

Relationship Intrusive Thoughts - Obsessive doubts over the suitability of a relationship, one’s partner or one's own sexuality are the main focus for the obsessional thoughts. Obsessional thoughts include:
Constantly analysing the depth of feelings for one's partner, placing the partner and the relationship under a microscope and finding fault.
Constantly needing to seek reassurance and approval from one's partner.
Doubts that one's partner is being faithful.
Doubts that one may cheat on their partner.
Questioning one’s own sexuality, and having feelings, thoughts and impulses about being attracted to members of the same sex.
The constant analysing and questioning of the relationship and partner often places immense strain on the relationship and the result is a person with OCD will often end the relationship to rid themselves of the doubt and anxiety, which is usually often repeated with any subsequent* relationship.

However, I agree with Dave. ROCD could easily overlap into depression of some sort, low self esteem or even all of the them. What will matter here is that an OCD cycle exists. If her issues don't present as OCD, she will be looking for another disorder. BDD & OCD do have co morbid rates too.

It might be difficult for a GP to determine but a therapist should be able to shed some light on it from questioning her thoughts & symptoms.

this is what I am saying Terry The OP's dr should have at least made a referral of some kind to a psychiatrist/psychologist, But they didn't and to be told get on with it is not a answer I am shocked to say the least. Cheers
