Hello my name is kevin im 27 years old. I currently suffer from very bad panic disorder, anxiety disorder and depression. A couple of days ago I thought I felt like my thyroid was enlarged. I had a friend check it and they also agreed. I went to the doctors today very scared. They could all tell how nurvous i was because of how i was shaking and the questions i was asking. The dr came in and felt all my glands and focused on my thyroid because thats what i initailly came in for. She said i dont feel anything odd. So of course i said you dont feel anything she said "no i said i dont feel anything to worry about" almost as she was saying she did feel something but not out of the ordinarary. She then proceded to tell me " to set your mind at ease i will order you a ultra sound" for me alarms strted going off right away because of she said everything is fine and she felt no lumps, would a dr really do this just to put a patient at ease or is it because she didnt want to tell me she felt something cause i was freaking out. Anyway i am absolutly freaking out. Amy insight on this would be great. To.me if she is truely certain she wouldnt waste and recorces just to reassure me. Please help. Thank you
P.S the ultra sound is in 10 days.

Yeah, particularly in the US doctors will do this all the time. I believe in countries with universal health care systems there is more of a priority ranking (where, for example, if you didn't have a serious issue you wouldn't be seen for weeks or months) but in the US it's all about who can pay and so you can see a specialist ASAP.

I have had many "at ease" appointments in the past; never has there been anything wrong with me.

Unfortunately, if you don't believe her, there's a chance you won't believe the results of the ultrasound either. Or you will, for a time, and then begin to think that something was missed or they just didn't tell you a vital piece of information. That is the nature of the health anxiety beast.

Have you ever spoken to anyone about your anxiety/depression?

I have an underactive thyroid. It's annoying but really not life threatening.

Your Dr knows what to look for too, more than the Internet.

Thank you both very much. Very assuring. Yes I do have a physiatrist. Im prescribed xanax xr 1mg for the day and xanax 1mg for nighttime. My panic attacks and anxiety was under control when i first started taking the meds but 3 years after the extended release does not really help. I get 2 to 5 bad panic attacks a day. The night time isnt bad normally I do not get any panic attacks but I also self medicate with canabis oil and it works great but still not legal in ny. Its the scariest thing in the world and i wouldnt wish it on anyone. Im thinking of maybe checking myself in somewhere because it getting to hard to handle. Every day im scared. Constantly live in fear of the future and cant stop thinking about existance and death. I was also prescribed prozac and it was working great but then i started noticing that my sexual drive was completley deminished. So i stoped taking it. Im not too sure what to do. But thank you for your responses. I appreciate the time you took to talk to.me
