Just thought I'd pop in and say hi.
Been plagued with anxiety and agoraphobia most of my life, seemed to have started at school and is still lurking about ruining my day to day life.
On a happier note, nice to be among people who understand.

Hello I too suffer from agoraphobia. It started when I was 13. I was very social as a child up until then. I loved people, the world, spending time with friends and above all getting out of the house!

I think I started to feel the outside world was split/broken off from home and "dangerous" for a woman. I couldn't stand my changing body. I feel anxious with people in the moment. Or else I just feel flatness. I'm not on meds because I realize its not my problem other people are feeling bad. I need my emotions to survive.

It just feels like enormous effort to get out. I hate my appearance way too much. I'm doing well at exposure with CBT to get out for 30 mins everyday. Its tough. Its boring as hell, but at best I aim to turn it into an everyday, automatic, simple thing just like brushing your teeth or showering (something I actually used to struggle with).

Fantasizing keeps me indoors. I can't really do it fully if I'm out in front of others.

What scares you about going out? When do you get most anxious?

Hi again,
thanks Venusbluejeans will take a good look at what's to read.

Bea84 - Just got a lot of anxiety. Can hardly get out at all at the moment. Not sure what it is that scares me about going out. Just classic agoraphobic feeling when i try to go out, hyperventilating/nausea/heart thumping like crazy.
Doctor is useless, he's one of those 'pull yourself together' idiots who thinks that saying that to me will suddenly make me better
Whenever i'm ill (sinus etc), can't get to the surgey and they wont do a home visit. Nightmare really.
Not in a good place at the moment, but i'm sure that applies to a lot on here.

HI and welcome aboard Jamiebythesea to NMP :) Sounds a nice place to live though all that nice scenery too. While I don't have your condition I still struggle to find new people to interact with so will often stay indoors and it's so damn hard when everyone else seems to be having fun. Yeah met those sort of dr's a few times makes me even worse to hear what they have to say (: I am sure you will get through this with the help and support from this forum :) Cheers
