Just wondered if anyone has found any of the treatments for agoraphobia to work?
Had the chance for a one on one chat with a CBT specialist but their office was 20 miles away!! and they said couldn't I get someone to take me there!!
If I could travel 20 miles I wouldn't need the treatment. :lac:
Any suggestions are welcome. thanks.

I have found the Dare Program very good. If you go to dareresponse.com you can purchase the book. The other thing I have found helpful is ACT Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The course documents are located under therapies on this site. The Dare programme teaches you to accept the anxiety/panic, rather than fear it, as it is the fear that causes the anxiety/panic to continue. Avoidance of places ect also fuel the panic/anxiety which also adds to it continuing. Hope this helps. It's very good for agoraphobia.

No worries. Happy to help. If you google Barry McDonagh (author of the book), and go to videos, there are quite a few from him that you can watch. It was called Panic Away before Dare.

Jamie that's quite interesting what you have posted, but it's not just about being able to travel any distance, although it does help :) It's more about being able to interact with other people too which I am sure you know :) I am currently going to a peer support group with a MH charity called changes and it's helping. They are launching soon Changes (online) Radio it's proven to work with any MH condition they are doing podcasts to either to listen to or download it's proven to work (as do they changes groups/meetings) for over 2 decades:) and has been the concept designed to help people with any MH condition, so should know more about after the meeting I want as many members on here to know about it too :) So as they say stay tuned for more info Cheers

The only thing that has worked for me is exposure therapy.
I tried it first with valium. Ended up addicted to valium.

The only way is to do the exposure with NO safety behaviours or meds.
Because you have to be able to rely on yourself in all situations.
Also, practice,practice, practice exposure.
