my bowel movements 3 months ago,
changed from random to always every single morning and slightly softer (sorry!) at around 7am and this week on 2 days twice in the morning. i know this sounds trivial to most of you but it was a change for me and don't they say that's what y should look for...? So after doc saying it was fine and me trying to accept it i had a telephone conversation with a gastroenterologist (via my dermatologist after my 6 monthly check) and he agreed it is a change and should be investigated via a colonoscopy so am now completely in a spin again and going to get one booked as long as my doctor agrees as she was adamant i didn't need one. I told gastroenterologist i had clear bloods last we and he said although reassuring said the procedure is the only way to know. i also had a one day bout of diarrhoea a couple of weeks ago and he was asking about that when i was hoping a one off bout was ok!! I don't know if anyone has experienced going from ransom lifelong bowel movements to every day regular all
of a sudden but now
i'm panicking as it's been 3
months and no one was listening. I have lost a stone in weight it not been eating great so hoping that's what that is!! i am 43.........anyone else experienced this?

Hello there

Sorry you have not had a response as yet.

I have had similar issues last year on and off, I also lost weight with eating less and yes I was so anxious I thought something was seriously wrong with me!

My doctor too said the bloods were a good thing being normal but a colonoscopy was the only way to be 100% sure, so, I went for it and it was all normal, he said I had post infectious IBS, my anxiety and terror or prospect of it being sinister put me in a right spin and never thought I would see it through the other end and I did!

Please do not be scared or try and not focus on it, wait for the colonoscopy as I think your dr is doing the right thing, anything can cause a change in bowel movements, worry and/or anxiety being just one of them.

My personal experience and advice to you is go for the colonoscopy and I bet you will be just fine & there will be a logical explanation or none and it is just IBS or a 'change' as we get older things 'change' too.

Keep us updated.

It is probably related to your diet etc

Usually you GP would be the one who would refer you to a gastroenterologist. So it's a bit confusing when you say that the specialist advises one thing and your GP advises another. Is it because your GP knows something the specialist doesn't, which is your history of HA?

I don't know if you should get the colonoscopy or not but the specialist is telling you the truth. Good results from blood tests are reassuring but blood work doesn't always show problems. My own Gastroenterologist said the same thing to me. A colonoscopy is a very definitive test. I had one and it was painless. I was back home after half a day and back at work the next.

Same thing is happening to me as of the last 3 weeks.

I still get normal bowel movements occasionally, but on the whole they are definitely softer with some diarrhea. I thought maybe I had a virus or something but I doubt that would go past 2 weeks. The good news is they haven't changed in color or frequency with consistency really, so I'm suspecting IBS and trying not to think about more sinister causes. I have had a ton of stress lately but it usually doesn't impact my gut for this long.

I've already booked an appointment with a gastro at the end of June (!! first appt they had :weep:) just in case. I'm really hoping things get better before then though - I've decided to go ahead and "treat" it like IBS and see if it improves things while I wait.
