View Full Version : Foul Smelling Gas... Soft Stool... Colon Cancer

Yesterday and today my gas has been much more foul smelling and my stool was soft, thinner, and hard to pass yesterday and today.

Could these be symptoms of colon cancer? My bowel movements were fine earlier this week.

I had a clear colonoscopy 3 years ago. Only a small 4mm benign polyp was removed. Doctor said to return in 5 years.

Couldn't it be what you have eaten? Or anxiety related, since it greatly upsets our GI?

Have you never had this prior to now? Noxious smells from that region come & go throughout life...but ladies don't do them obviously

Another consideration is that anxiety has been proven to make foul smells appear worse to the olfactory system and even neutral things can have a bad odour.

I wouldn't worry about it. Depends on what you have eaten and like Terry said anxiety can cause these symptoms. Fish you crack me up!

Sounds like you ate things that your body isn't totally used to. Or anxiety. Or a combo. I feel like colon cancer involves blood?

I'm thinking maybe I have a large tumor that is blocking my colon.

I had this fear a long time ago too my friend. I assure you that's not colon cancer.. that happens alot when you eat something your stomach doesn't agree with or dietary changes. I hope you feel better!

Hi I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be on here typing away if you had a blockage of the colon I would say its either bad anxiety or something you have eaten like maybe spices or too much dairy products.
The more you stress over it the worse it'll get try to relax give it a day or 2 and your system will begin to correct itself.

From the NHS:

Bowel cancer symptoms are also very common, and most people with them don't have cancer.
For example:

blood in the stools when associated with pain or soreness is more often caused by piles (haemorrhoids) (http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/haemorrhoids/Pages/What-is-it-page.aspx)
a change in bowel habit or abdominal pain is usually the result of something you've eaten
a change in bowel habit to going less often, with harder stools, is not usually caused by any serious condition – it may be worth trying laxatives (http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Laxatives/Pages/Introduction.aspx) before seeing your GP

These symptoms should be taken more seriously as you get older and when they persist despite simple treatments.

They recommend monitoring to see if symptoms change or if treatments fail. But I think a GP would easily see when further testing is required just to be sure. GP's will see millions of people with problems like the above and treat them for th most likely reason they occur, so they know what they are looking out for.

Are you worrying about your brain tumour at the moment?

ALS, skin cancer, brain cancer, stomach cancer... how unlucky can one guy be?

The doctor you go to see about it is a part time magician with a penchant for pulling bunches of flowers out of hats?

That would be unlucky.

I was going to answer but have decided to wait until you get to the "I'm just going to have to accept that I'm dying from colon cancer" part. It's not serious enough yet. Will check back in a few days. lol

Let me do it for you....

Can't you see how much this person is suffering? How can you be so heartless? Just stay out of the thread if you can't be compassionate. :whistles:

"Are people getting the message yet? This person is not interested in listening to a damn word anyone says. Sure as fate he will disappear in a puff of smoke then return next month telling us he's utterly convinced he has swine flu or something.

Utter nonsense."

None of what you said sounds concerning, it sounds like you're giving into anxiety more than anything.

I too have soft stool at times, very foul smelling gas at times. It all depends on what I eat.

Some people have a harder time digesting certain foods, it's very common. I've dealt with this most of my life, eventually you will be wondering why does some of my poop float while others sink to the bottom, but the answers is still the same, certain foods aren't digested properly, and this is the result of that, and it doesn't mean cancer, it means you have a normal digestive system, that sometimes has a little trouble with food, some people can digest just about anything and others cannot, it's as simple as that. As long as you're not in pain, running constant fevers, night sweats, blood in your stool, I say stop worrying. My neighborhood actually had colon cancer, and there was no mistaken it, when he got it he knew something was seriously wrong, he beat the cancer, but soon died due to other reasons other than the cancer.

I suppose some air freshener was needed but that only masked the problem ;)

It seemed to get better for a week or so and now is back again. Pretty concerned. :(

I'm having a scope on Tuesday so I've been (ill-advisedly) googling stuff about colon cancer and symptoms and in all that googling and all the papers I've read I haven't seen one word about gas-related symptoms.
