Hi,
I'm after a little advice please, to give you a short background I've suffered with anxiety for about 6 years now and I went to see a councillor at the beginning and made a lot of progress and dealt with the issue that was bothering me at the time. However, over the past few months I've been feeling very anxiety about a cricket game I'm going to with a friend. I've known this friend from the internet for about 3 years and we've met a few times to go to the football etc and around the end of last year we agreed to go to the cricket together at the end of May. He's coming up to see me and we've got Thursday - Saturday planned at the cricket and going out on the nights. When I planned this my anxiety wasn't an issue and I was feeling fine with things. However, I really seem to have gone backwards since then and I'm having to face a lot of things I stupidly thought would heal and get better over time on their own - and they've now come to a head.
I've been trying not to think about the cricket for the last month or so telling myself it was still ages away but a few days ago it hit me that it's in a few weeks and I've started to panic and I can't get out of it and I don't know what to do. I'm planning on making an appointment with my doctor today and I know now that I'm going to have to see a councillor again but has anyone got any recommendations to get me through the weekend at the end of May. I've never taken medication before and I was wondering if Beta Blockers or something would help until it's over - does anyone think these will work for this or would something else be better? I've always been wary of taking medication but I'm at a loss of what else will help me. It's not the days that are worrying me as such but more that I'm somehow going to have to entertain my friend on an evening and I'm not big on going out until the early hours or making conversation and I'm thinking negative thought which I know I shouldn't.
Any help/ advice would be appreciated. Sorry for rambling on.
Thanks,
Lucy
