I've been to THREE doctors about a spot on the floor of my mouth that I think I bit (how I don't know but I remember doing it at least once, maybe twice). My dentist a few times, an Ear Nose and Throat specialist, and twice an ORAL SURGEON told me it wasn't cancer - nothing pathological. Yet it's still there.

I know I'm to NOT worry based on the above reassurances, especially from the Oral Surgeon, who has been at this for 30 years. The ENT has been at it for over 25 years, all well respected. Yet I still check and worry.

What would you do/think?

If three medical professionals have told you it's nothing to worry about, compounded by the fact you recall biting yourself..... I'm not sure what anybody else here can say to reassure you.

This is one of those cases where you have to tell yourself, repeatedly if necessary, that there's nothing to worry about.

I know, I know. Thanks so much, but you know how it is. Matter of fact, the Oral Surgeon himself said, quote, "It looks like you bit it," before I even told him!

I still thank you Joe - I want to conquer this.

It sounds obvious, but telling yourself mantras DOES make a huge difference.

'I'm fine, I'm safe' etc etc.

I thought it was fairy juice before, until somebody explained why it works. You have your conscious and subconscious brain. It's the subconscious brain that causes most issues, and it sometimes needs your conscious brain to tell it that there's nothing to worry about.

If you think about an argument for example, your subconscious brain doesn't know the difference between a thought and reality. That's why your heart starts pounding just thinking about it.

Stupid brain! :yesyes:

I know that's right! Maybe I just need more time?

Check this out.

The nutritionist I go to who swears gut health is the root of all mental disorders, thinking disorders, etc, called that spot in my mouth a fendulum cyst. Don't know if I spelled it right, but your fendulum is the flanks of the floor of your mouth. He didn't hesitate to call it that when he saw it. I'm like "WHATTTTT??????" He says sure, it's all related to your messed up digestion. So I say "Well then why the hell doesn't the dentist, ENT and Oral Surgeon say what it is?" And he said that they haven't studied Chinese medicine like he has, nor have the nutrition training he has. So they tell me what it ISN'T, but never do say what it IS!

How crazy is that?

Your nutritionist probably isn't THAT qualified.

Listen to those that are.

Although I agree with the idea that your digestion has an effect on your overall health, it's a chicken/egg situation. If you worry, your digestion suffers. If your digestion isn't right....you worry.

I told the Oral Surgeon that and he told me that's all fine and dandy, but THEY (Oral Surgeon, ENT, dentist) are the go-to people for that, so I agree with you.

On the other hand, I respectfully disagree with the digestion thing. There's zillions of nerves in the stomach and digestive system that send signals to the brain. If that's out of wack why then it only makes sense your brain would be out of wack.

Not to be gross, but when I get "bad" news (a relative thing), I'd better find a toilet within minutes! Hell, I remember when I lost a job 14 years ago, I'd shit myself taking a shower! That's LITERALLY having the shit scared out of you! 44 years old, wife and 4 kids, and no job! Oh, I can tell you more but won't. So yeah, that's the brain at work on the digestive system, so I agree with you on that aspect.

Counseling session last night. Her brothers are doctors. She asked me if I had a distrust of people smarter than me, like doctors, and I said "hell no!" "Then why don't you believe them?" she asked, which is a fair question. And one I have no answer for.
