Hi All
About 18 months ago I started having laser hair removal for my legs. My legs didn't have much hair on them to start with and I didn't shave them much but decided to get laser. So I had 4 treatments. About 2 months after the last treatment I noticed a raised red spot on my leg on the inner side and thought it must be a blocked follicle or ingrown hair. I squeezed it and blood came out and it seemed to heal but it turned into a slightly bigger red raised bump. I decided to pop it and squeezed and squeezed it and a lot of blood and pus came out and it because round and flat. I put some cream on it and covered with a plaster. After a couple of weeks I saw that it had healed into a raised lump. I went to a skin cancer clinic and the doctor just said it's a lesion and didn't know what it was but when I asked is it cancer he said no. This Lumo had been there for over a year now and I recently noticed a tiny dot in the middle like a scab or a hair trying to push out of it and now I'm worried again. I saw this stupid GP for something else and while there I thought I'd mention it ... he checked it and said laser causes cancer and it could be a rare cancer ...WTF??!! He suggested he biopsy t but I said no. I took some pics of it and sent it to the laser clinic and she thinks it's an ingrown hair and scar tissue as well ... I'm not confused and too scared to see anyone about it ... can anyone tell me from the pic what they think it could be ??

There's no pic attached to look at. My concern is why on earth the GP would say something like that to you. I'm no doctor but even I know that there are sooo many things it could be other than that. Especially seeing how it started out as something you were able to pop.

Any issues I have with my skin I usually dont even bring them up to my GP. I'll wait to see my dermatologist bc she is the SKIN specialist lol

If you're that worried why did you refuse the biopsy? I'm sure it's nothing serious :)

It sounds like you had a Sebaceous cyst! They aren't cancerous and drs don't typically do anything unless they are infected. They suck but aren't any worry.

Your dr sounds really like a jerk. Also why did you turn down the biopsy if you are afraid?

I refused his biopsy because he's not my regular GP... I went there for something else urgently to do with my son and just thought I'd mention it to him.

I'm sorry but this is not a diagnostic forum, and we have no medical knowledge, and there would be no point anyone opening a picture and giving you any advice based on that. We're on this forum because we're so woefully rubbish at diagnosing our own medical "symptoms", so the worst people to ask!

I know it's scary, but you need a second opinion from a doctor rather than asking us. It sounds like a doctor has put a lot of fear into you through musing on a vague chance of something unlikely.

I know its not a clinic and people here are not doctors, I just was asking for an opinion maybe someone else has ahd a similar spot..and yes doctors make situations even worse thast why i refuse to see one

Unfortunately, most here know the result of this. You could have 15 pages of responses and it may help for a little bit but you'll still find a way to worry about it or find another spot, bump, symptom etc. that will just continue the cycle.

A medical professional would be your best source for an opinion as well as someone who can point you in the right direction to treat your anxiety.

So i finally plucked up the courage to have this thing checked properly. The ultrasound said it could be a follicular granuloma. The Doctor opned it and took small peices of skin for biopsy and the results say its the biopsy sample is very small and too hard to make a definte diagnosis but its a very small skin pieces of spindle cell lesion and is either a keloid scar or a keloidäl variant of a dermatofibroma"" and favouring the latter. The main thing is its NOT cancer (i was told this several times). So I now need to stop worrying about it. Its currently covered in a plaster and will hopefully heal to a smaller scar.

Hi, I know your worry, I actually just came back from drs for a similar thing. She said it was scar tissue. I also have 4 on my legs from mosquito bites ive scratched and made scars. The hairs still grow out of couple of them. Also on another note my husband has one on the back of his knee which keeps getting bigger as he keeps playing with it. Its so weird as I wasnt worried about this spot last week but since I got given the all clear on another spot i was ok for a week and then its like I needed to find something to direct my anxiety too. Its time i see a therapist as this cycle is ongoing. All the best. I know what you are going through. Just horrible. x
