I've just got back from the doctors who have confirmed what I thought I'd been suffering with for the last few weeks, I have pulsatile tinnitus probably caused by pregnancy. It's HORRIBLE! For someone with anxiety and who hates the sound of their heartbeat/pulse, it's enough to drive you potty!

It's pretty much constant all day and very loud pulse sound in my ears which gets really fast sometimes. He checked blood pressure to make sure that wasn't a cause and said it's fine, so that's good.

Any one suffer from this and any tips to coping?!

As an update, this never went after birth and has continued 24/7 in fact getting worse. I saw my GP today who has put in a referral to ENT. He felt the pulse in my neck and said it was very strong, but didn't mention what this could mean. My heart rate was 98. When pressing on the side of my neck towards the front the pulse sound stopped.

For anyone who might be having this this site has sound clips from people, the first one sounds exactly like mine. It's horrible to live with for anyone but especially someone with health anxiety. http://whooshers.com/whooshersounds.html

The website my doctors only suggest to look at is Patient info, which I do check from time to time and even that says, pulsatile tinnitus is very different from regular tinnitus. My anxiety is very high because of the possible causes, aneurysm, vascular problems ect. Along with this tinnitus I told them I have developed facial flushing which is so severe it looks like sunburn, comes on completely randomly sometimes, but mostly when my heart rate invreases or I get warm. He saw it today and said it is most definitely not a 'normal' redness.

He's not gave any indication as to what could be going on but I'm so scared, I forgot to tell him that a couple of family members have had strokes, my nanna was very young too.

It doesn't help that on this official tinnitus website many people suffering from this form have said it seems they don't know much about this and it can easily be passed off as something you just have to live with, when there is always a cause.
Feeling very low and that I am a walking time bomb, can anyone tell me down

I have the same condition, left ear only. Had it for five years now, it is madenning, but only really bad in quiet rooms. That said, I have had a clean MRI, and debating on how much further to take the exploration. All too often they come up without results, and I have some other medical stuff I have to follow up on constantly, so honestly, I just get so sick of tests that I need, the last thing I want to do is get more testing.

That said, I suppose I should push for it, my ENT found nothing. Neurology and vascular next.

You will probably habituate to it over time. I do realize how bad tinnitus is, because I tend to have it when stressed or sick. However, there are mamy techniques that may or may not work.
-listening to nature sounds on YouTube seems to work wonders for many people
-the Reddit technique (Google it)
-hearing aids
-medication

Do you have periods of not having the tinnitus? Especially when you just woke up or when being busy. If so, then it might be anxiety related. Fingers crossed for you!

I read that is almost always vascular in nature, but I don't know how accurate that information is. Its concerned me that I stopped when he pressed on my neck, and saying I have a strong pulse, which may be good in some ways it's the way he said it, or i perceived it. Either way im terrified by this and its making me so crazy that i want to admit myself to hospital and let my partner care for our child.

I never have times where it isn't there, it is constant as soon as I wake, nothing stops it, except, for about 30 seconds to a minute afyer I've been crying, I can't hear it, strange. It is so loud mostly I cannot hear people and feels like my head neck is pumping away!

I wouldnt worry about the strong pulse remark. I was admitted to a hospital last december because of an emergency, and I heard that my pulse is strong too. It's just probably an indicator that youre alright (you should have worried if he said that the pulse is weak). I'm guessing that it just falls in the same category as "your blood pressure is fine" or "your pupils are normal sized". Just a doc thing.

I wouldnt worry about the strong pulse remark.

I always thought a strong pulse was a good thing

Me too! It's the way he said it, very surprised by it.

You know health anxiety by now so I'm not going to try and hide it I'm in a right mess about this and it's so hard to block out when it's 24/7 and so loud. An aneurysm is the cause that I am terrified about thus convinced I have. I hope I get through this like all my other 'health scares'.

Just to update, saw an ENT specialist who said it seems my ears are fine and wants me to have an MRI to check blood vessels in the head. He told me not to be concerned and that it's something they routinely do with pulsatile tinnitus, still awaiting the letter for the scan at the minute.

Feeling extremely down, defeated, desperate. I just want someone to help me, I don't have any faith in the doctors here for pulsatile tinnitus, they don't seem to know anything about it and or care much. I've read countless medical studies, personal accounts of how their PT was not investigated properly and or the cause was missed on MRI ect, and many who have had to resort to contacting a specialist in America to get a diagnosis, to find out they were at serious risk of a stroke, dissecting artery, aneurysm ect. It's all so terrifying. The ENT said it's likely my MRI will be clear, how can they say that because something is clearly causing it, I'm sure they think we are lying. It is 24/7 and unavoidable, it's relentless and consuming, walking on egg shells thinking I I'll drop dead or have a stroke at any moment.

Should I visit my GP and tell them exactly how I'm feeling, I'm worried because they might get social services involved, when my baby is cared for perfectly. But I am definitely suicidal, or have been, I've lost the will to carry on and am in such a dark place.

oh Katie I'm sorry you're suffering so badly at the moment. I'd definitely go to your GP, they can be very helpful and understanding. Or you could try ringing the samaritians for some confidential support just a listening nonjudgmental ear.
Wishing you light at the end of the tunnel

I’m so sorry you’re so down. Definitely speak to your gp about it, or even call the Samaritans if you’d like to just talk to someone. I would imagine that feeling this way is very common and there are lots of people who feel the same. Please talk to someone, please.

My friend has this too & has also had all the tests - all clear. I will find out how she helps herself.

We are here, we will listen xxx
